A VERY Busy Week in K2!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend...I know it was nice to finally get out and work in my gardens! You would not think it was a short week at school with all the things we fit in. We started Unit 10 in our ELA series where we are talking about how new ideas can help us. We talked all about the things we could do when we work together. We introduced our last two sight words come/does and we introduced the last of the long vowel sounds. We also talked about the two sounds of oo. In Math we finished up Topic 16 and have now moved into Topic 17 which is titled: Step Up to Grade 1. The K2ers were so excited when they heard that title! Then on top of starting new units and topics we had our field trip to the EcoTarium in Worcester. It was a fabulous trip and a beautiful day. A BIG thank you to our chaperones Mr. Barnaby and Mr. Fowler for joining us. The K2ers were also super excited when Miss Davis came back to go on the trip with us. I kept it a surprise so that made it even better! Here are some photos from the trip.

Then today was the big day...our Books & Beyond Ceremony! Everyone in K2 was so anxious to get their medals that when they called our class they all jumped up to get in line to hear their name. Thank you to all of you for helping your child complete all 8 stations. I am still very proud of their accomplishment!

And as promised...it was ice cream time and it could not have been a more perfect day for it. There were a lot of red faces when they came in from recess so ice cream was the best thing!

And just to add to our FUN day we went to an assembly to listen to author and illustrator, Grace Lin, speak to us about being an author and illustrator. She explained the steps it takes to turn her ideas into a published book. She also read some excerpts from her Ling & Ting books and taught everyone how to draw a dog by starting with the number "5". The students really enjoyed listening to her speak. It was such a fun day in K2!

I really can't believe that our days together in K2 are numbered! I am looking forward to a lot more fun days in our last 17 days before summer vacation.

As a reminder we have field day on Monday and it is held RAIN or SHINE...please be sure your child wears sneakers and comfy clothes!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Yay, we DID it!

I am so proud of every K2er! Next Friday, May 29th, EVERY student in K2 will be receiving a Books & Beyond Medal at our ceremony in the morning. As promised that means...ICE CREAM PARTY! Next Friday, during snack time we will celebrate everyone's hard work with an ice cream party so you will not need to send a snack with your child that day. Great job, K2...once again I am SUPER proud of you!!

Thank You Miss Davis

As I am sure the K2ers told you, Miss Davis completed her 8 week student teaching placement this past week. She did a wonderful job while in K2 and we are going to miss her. We wish her all the best as she graduates from Fitchburg State University.
