Hip, Hip, Hooray...it was the 100th Day!

We made it to the 100th Day of Kindergarten! We did lots of fun activities centered around "100!" and we even did a 100 exercise activity for indoor recess. Here are some pictures from my favorite day of the school year...

Also...our grand total for food items donated was 149! Thank you so much to everyone that donated...Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz will be coming by our classroom on Friday to puck up all the food donations.

For a pretty mild winter it is quite the surprise to be having a 4 day weekend. I must {selfishly} admit that after a weekend in the Berkshires for my son Andrew's hockey tournament, it was nice to sleep in this morning! They made it to the championship game and walked away (or skated away I should say) with the 2nd place trophy.
Last week we talked about what ways the four seasons were different. We brainstormed what time of weather and activities take part throughout the year. Our vocabulary words were weather, season, spot, active and migrate. We also worked on the letters Bb and Ll and introduced the sight words is, little. We listened to the stories "Mama, is it Summer Yet?", "A Tour of the Seasons", and "Is It Hot?". In learning centers we wrote about our favorite season and favorite type of weather, sorted pictures by initial sound /b/ or /l/, read and wrote our sight words and practice writing Bb and Ll. This week we will be focusing in on weather. In math we continued working in Topic 7 which focuses on subtraction. We discussed the meaning of the word "difference", practiced writing number equations and took a number and broke it into 2 parts. We also took the number 10 and used manipulatives to find different ways to make 10 such as 9 and 1, 8 and 2, 7 and 3, etc... The K2ers did a great job with this! Due to these 2 snow days we will now be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday. Right now all of the kindergarten classes have collected 97 food items for our food drive. Thank you to everyone that donated already.
On Friday, February 12th, we will be exchanging valentines in K2. We have 20 children in our class so to make it easier, please have your child just sign their name to their valentines and not address them to specific classmates. This makes passing them out much easier. Due to food allergies, please be sure there is NO FOOD with the valentine. Also, as part of our valentine exchange, which will take part in the afternoon, you may send in a special snack for your child to enjoy. As I look out the window at my house, it seems like the snow has started falling. Enjoy the day and be safe!
