Week (and a half) in Review ~ January 2, 3, 8-11

Welcome back and I wish you all a Happy & Healthy 2018! With the 2 snow days last week we started Unit 4 week 3 in ELA, which was a review week, and finished it up this week. Our essential question was "How can people help to make the community better?"  The vocabulary words for the week were community, improve, harvest, quarrel and confused.  We listened to the stories Roadwork and the fable The Bundle of Sticks.  We reviewed the sounds for the letters Cc, Dd, Nn, Ii and Oo and reviewed the sight words learned so far.  In learning centers we worked on papers that reviewed the letter sounds and sight words and wrote in our journals about how we can help out in the community.

In Math we started working in Topic 5 titled "Classify and Count Data." In this topic we have been classifying objects into categories and telling why they are in each category, counting how many objects are in different categories and using counting to compare with category has a greater or less amount.  We will be finishing up this Topic next week.  Here are the K2ers working with their table to classify objects different ways.

This week we also worked a lot on Opinion writing.  The K2ers watched as I worked on an opinion piece (Would you rather wear mittens or gloves?) and then the next day we worked on one together (Would you rather indoor recess or outdoor recess?) and then the last day they worked on one by themselves. (Would you rather winter weather or summer weather?)  They are doing a good job at writing sentences that include sight words and tapping out the sounds in words.

Here is my final product and a sample of some of our K2 friends' writing prompt.

As a reminder there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, January 12th for students due to a Teacher Professional Development Day and NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF TISSUES!
If you can spare a box, it would be GREATLY appreciated. There is a lot of sniffling going on in K2!

Thank you for any donations!
