What a crazy week with all the snow and 2 snow days! We started unit 5 week 3 in our ELA series which focuses on what types of foods are grown on a farm. We reviewed the letters Rr and Ff and sorted pictures by the initial sound. The sight words introduced were with/he. I can really tell that everyone has been practicing the sight words introduced at home. You will see on your child's report card a spot for Knows High Fequency Words. We are using a standards based report card this year so they want us looking to the end of the year's goal when assessing the students. At the end of kindergarten it is expected that students will fluently know 95% of all the sight words introduced. While most of the students did not have this standard mastered at this time (which they are not expected to be mastered in) I feel it is important to note that EVERY child in the class knew 100% of the sight words introduced at this time. I am beyond proud of every single K2er!
In Math we are starting to work on seeing the different ways we can make a number. Today we took the number 5 and listed all the different combinations that would make 5 when we break it into two parts. We will continue to do this with numbers to 10. Here is a picture of the chart we made together when figuring out the different combinations.
Today we had a special visit from Finz, the mascot from the Worcester Sharks. He and Mr. Goldstein from the Sharks organization were here to discuss how important it is to read. Here are some photos from their visit. Your child is coming home with a special reading program they have going on that students can participate in. Please check your child's message tube.
