Rhyme Time

Last week we started talking about words that rhyme and that a rhyme is when one word ends with the same sound(s) as another word such as cat/hat, dog/log and lip/ship. A great way to practice rhyming at home is to choose a word and have your child think of a word that rhymes with it. If they are a fan of Dr. Seuss, reading one of his books is a fun way to talk about rhymes as well. Today, we watched the video for the song "Down By the Bay" which is filled with rhymes and we read the Dr. Seuss book "Green Eggs and Ham" and talked about all the rhyming words. Here is the video for "Down By the Bay" for your child to enjoy again at home. Also, there are some great links for rhyming games that your child can practice with online such as http://pbskids.org/games/rhyming/. There are also many rhyming apps that you can find for many smartphone or tablet devices. Happy Rhyming!!
