Week in Review ~ September 14th - 18th

It was another great week in K2. I can't get over how well the K2ers have responded to the "Mystery Walker" and since we started it, we have been 4 for 4 with giving out the certificates. Keep up the great work!

In ELA our essential question was "Who is in your family?" We re-read the story Animals in the Park: An ABC Book and listened to the fable Tikki Tikki Tembo and the read-aloud Teddy's Week. We talked about what we do with our families as well as ways we help out at home. We worked on rhyming, as mentioned in a previous post, introduced the letters a, o, s, z, l, r, w, and h. We continued to use the Lively Letters to introduce them and the K2ers are loving hearing each letter's story and song. The sight word can was introduced and we listened to a song to help,us remember how to spell the word. In learning centers we wrote in our journals about who is in our family and filled in the writing prompt I can ______ with something they can do. We practiced spelling the sight word can, worked on the computer with the Lexia program, practiced rhyming, and also practiced writing our names. In kindergarten we try to have the students start writing their name with an uppercase letter at the beginning and the rest lowercase. Some practice sheets will be sent home next week so that you can reinforce that at home.

In Math we continued working in Topic 1: Numbers 0 to 5. We counted, read, and wrote the numbers 4 and 5 and discussed the number 0. We quickly introduced the poems for writing 4 and 5 and they are...

4: down and over and down once more. That's the way to make a 4.

5: short neck, belly fat. Number 5 wears a hat.

Thank you to everyone that is practicing number writing at home...we can tell who is working on it. Next week, I will be sending home a practice sheet for your child to work on at home.

Enjoy this last weekend of summer...I can't believe fall is right around the corner!
